The Bold, the Dark and the Gothic: Gothic Fashion

When it comes to gothic fashion, there are many different forms of it.  Many people do not know exactly what gothic fashion is and where is all started from.  In this article, we will explore Gothic fashion as a whole and explore exactly where this fashion got its start and why it is so popular now-a-day. 

Gothic fashion has been around for such a long time that many people have no idea that it started way back in the eighteen hundreds and although in recent years, gothic fashion has changed a lot, there are still a few things that are incorporated into each and every piece of clothing that is labeled gothic.

Gothic fashion in recent years has picked up exponentially and has increased in popularity immensely.  Gothic fashion takes its cue from the eighteen hundreds when corsets, elaborate dresses, lace, velvets and veils were all extremely fashionable.  The eighteen hundreds were filled with gothic fashion and that style still holds true in gothic fashion today.  Teenagers have taken gothic fashion to an entirely different level and have created a mixture of eighteen hundreds fashion mixed with the music genre.

Lace trimmed blouses, corsets, pointy boots, tight-fitting jeans, fishnet and full skirts are all part of the gothic fashion and more recently, gothic has taken on a cyber-feel to it.  Many designers have incorporated UV-reactive colors and materials, goggles, LED screens and even glow-sticks/cybernetics into their style.   Music is also another thing that gothic fashion as picked up, whether bands are incorporated on tee shirts, or musical instruments are placed in strategic places, music plays a huge part in the newest gothic fashion. 

Jewelry is also another staple in all gothic fashion, whether it is black diamonds, silver pendants or white gold rings, jewelry is extremely important and most of the jewelry is usually worn on the body.  Chain belts, bracelets, head garb and necklaces are all part of the core gothic fashion.  More recently, gothic fashion has taken on bullet belts, fabric necklaces and even platform boots have all come into play in gothic fashion. 

Most of the time people attribute gothic fashion as something dark, morbid and fetish-related.  While that is not always the case, gothic fashion does usually feature a lot of blacks and darker colors into their style with usually a splash of red for dramatics.  Victorian, Elizabethan and Renaissance styles are all closely related to gothic attire and while many different designers have picked up on this type of fashion, there are still some core elements that make gothic fashion gothic.

Fashion shows and fashion week in New York are slowly but surely becoming more accepting of gothic designers and are even including a few designers and their collections in upcoming shows.  Gothic fashion is all about rebelling and being bold and dark at the same time.  Gothic designers usually look to be dramatic, they thrive on controversy and it is usually extremely apparent their clothing.
